Live Euglena at 200x
Euglena are both photosynthetic and organotrophic protists (they get energy both by consuming organic molecules and from light). This image is a cluster of live Euglena near an air bubble on a slide. Euglena move by contracting their cells into balls (much like an inchworm), which is why some of the individuals appear like balls while others are elongated.
