A gulf fritillary [Agraulis vanillae incarnata] stands on a [Ficus] leaf. The spots on its wings when closed are white in the shade (as in this image), but reflect light to appear a beautiful silver when illuminated. When its wings are closed, the bright orange and red colors of the butterfly are completely hidden.
